Mike Ruddock's appointment as head honcho at Worcester is a surprising one in my book.
I wouldn't mind betting that Ruddock sees a great opportunity to get out of the goldfish bowl by working in England.
But while he has supposedly been promised funds for team strengthening, he won't find it an easy task keeping Worcester in the Guinness Premiership next season.
Then again with the club having gone so close to the drop this season, Ruddock may well feel he cannot do a lot worse and that the task of merely avoiding that last day scramble for safety is by no means a Herculean one.
Whatever happens, I wish him the best of luck.
Even though he has a Grand Slam on his cv I still feel that, rightly or wrongly, he has something to prove as a coach.

How can you say he needs to prove himself as a coach? He has a very good coaching record in the clubs he has worked at and I, if not most Welsh rugby supporters will forgive him everything for what he gave us in 05. It was 27 years and by the way we played this year, with similar players, another 27 years before the next Slam.
