I think very highly of Ian Evans as a player. He's also a top fellow and it's clear the Wales management think the same.
They are planning to build their pack around him in the next few years and he could be one of the greats if he can put his injury problems behind him.
But...isn't there always a but!....it is a huge gamble to take him to a World Cup when he will have played no rugby for the entire year prior to the tournament.
The best players in the world in any sport would struggle to perform to their highest level under those circumstances.
Players always tell you that there is no substitute for playing matches and when you think that Australia are up as soon as the second game of the competition you have to have concerns.
The preparedness to give him so much leeway again raises the spectre of Gavin Henson and whether he might have been ditched too soon.
